No. 891 Diocese of Marbel, Philippines 1 September 2016
- WORLD DAY OF PRAYER (WDP) FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
September 1st is WDP for the environment. Mother Nature has been abused for a long time. Air, water and soil pollution. Degradation of the environment through excessive logging and destructive mining driven by greed and ignorance. We have been remiss in our role as steward of God’s creatures.
We study, pray and act (SPA).
Following is a prayer I composed yesterday, 31st August, for Radio Veritas
World Day of Prayer for the Environment
Loving Father, Creator of the universe,
We thank you for making this Earth
habitable for us, your children.
The rich diversity of creatures,
their interconnectedness,
and their inner dynamism
show a design beyond compare.
You entrusted us, Lord God,
the care and protection of our planet earth.
But we have been remiss
in our role as steward.
Lord Jesus, forgive us
for polluting air, water and soil;
denuding mountains of trees;
and degrading the environment
through excessive logging
and destructive mining,
driven by greed and ignorance.
Holy Spirit, teach us
that we are responsible
for the present and future generations;
and, therefore, to exert efforts
to make this world, our home, a better place to live in.
Triune God, empower us
to heal our land;
to mend broken hearts; and
to promote truth, justice, love and freedom,
that you may be glorified and
that peace may reign in our country.
Mary, Queen of all creation,
“enable us to look at this world
With eyes of wisdom” as Pope Francis writes.AMEN.
