- RECOLLECTION OF PRIESTS
Forty-six priests (2 Passionist fathers) attended the joint recollection, 13 October 2015, Sto. Niño Parish, Sto. Niño, South Cotabato.
Senior faculty members, Notre Dame Diocesan Schools, prepared a history of the 9 diocesan schools. It was delivered by Ms. Jocelyn D. Agullana.
The purpose was to show how the Church in the Diocese of Marbel responded to the needs of the poor for formal education.
Missionary Fathers of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI) of the Prelature of Cotabato under Bishop Gerard Mongeau, OMI, founded two schools ND Glan (1952) and ND Norala (1953).
Later on, the Passionist Fathers under the Prelate Ordinary of Marbel, Bishop Quentin Olwell, CP founded seven schools: ND Milbuk (1959), ND Kiamba (1963), ND New Ilolilo (1964), ND Sto. Niño (1964), ND Maitum (1965), ND San Jose (1966) and ND Maasim (1967).
These schools have survived several financial and political crises due to the support of the parish priests, “inter alia” (among others).
Catholic schools are means of evangelization. “Catholic institutions should therefore reaffirm evangelization as their primary goal for education”. (PCP II, 637). There is “the need to align with the thrust and program for renewal of the local church…highlighting the preferential option for the poor and simplicity of lifestyle.” (ibid)
The report was prepared by Nelia C. Badian (NDN), Gemma D. Duco (NDN), Jocelyn D. Agullana (NDNI) and Milagros Mayo (NDNI).
- Bishop Dinualdo instructed the priests that the sharing during the nine-day Novena Aguinaldo Masses must be done after the Post Communion Prayer. Reason: to avoid misunderstanding that the laity gives homily if the sharing is done after the Gospel.
- Complete evaluations, strategic plans, were received from these parishes: Alabel, Calumpang, Cannery, Dadiangas, Maasim, Maitum, Marbel. Partial reports from Fatima, Lagao, Polomolok. Deadline was September 30. We exhort priests tobe more diligent.
- KidMaCo Gathering: October 26-27, Cotabato City, behind Archbishop’s residence. Assembly: Cathedral; Departure: 9am.
