  1. PINOY’S ACHIEVEMENTS (NOT SONA)

Pres. Benigno Simeon Aquino III spoke on his ACHIEVEMENTS on 27 July 2015 from 4:05 to 6:20pm before the joint congress, foreign dignitaries, cabinet members, etc.

His achievements in economy, education, electricity, health, infrastructures, job creation, K to 12, 4Ps, military armaments, transportation (air and sea).

He did not mention the state of the nation: (1) continuing degradation of the environment due to increased number of approved mining and coal-fired power plants; as well as air, soil and water pollution; (2) increasing number of human rights violations; (3) marginalization of the poor and the indigenous people; (4) successive breakdown of the LRT and MRT; (5) inequitable distribution of wealth resulting in 11.2 million Filipino families consider themselves poor (SWS/ABS-CBN) 51%; (6) the rehabilitation of the “Yolanda” victims; (7) selective justice; (8) regularity of brownouts; (9) justice for the victims of the Mamasapano “massacre”; (10) slow implementation of the Agrarian Reform Law; (11) heavy traffic in highly urbanized cities like Metro Manila and Metro Cebu; (12) unresolved Maguindanao Massacre and others; etc.

 

  1. UNITED NATION’S OFFICE, HIGH COMMISIONER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS,

     REPRESENTATIVES VISIT DIOCESE OF MARBEL

Dr. Chaloka Beyani, UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Internally Displaced People (IDP) met with 36 Indigenous People from Tampakan and Lake Sebu (South Cotabato), Kiblawan (Davao Sur), Maasim and Malungon (Sarangani) and Bagumbayan (Sultan Kudarat).

Also present were: United Nations Commission on Human Rights (Geneva – Switzerland, Manila and Mindanao) – 7; Philippine Commission on Human Rights, Regions XI and XII – 6; SAC-Marbel – 10 and others – 5.

Total participants in the meeting on July 25, 2015, AVR, NDMU-IBED Campus, Koronadal City: 64.

Main Agendum: interview with IPs regarding human rights violations in their territories.

On 26 July 2015, Dr. Chaloka Beyani met with civil society at Fred Ans Restaurant, Odi Osmeña St., Koronadal City.

Bishop Dinualdo welcomed the participants.

Dr. Chaloka Beyani spoke on the objectives of his country mission: (1) protection and assessment of persons displaced by development projects, conflicts, etc.; (2) look into Tampakan Copper and Gold Projects: risks, protection of IPs; (3) rights of IPs to self-determination, life, identity, psychological and spiritual rights; (4) establish linkages and network with displaced persons.

Fr. Gillarme Joy Peliño, Executive Director, SAC Marbel, Sr. Susan Bolanio, OND, Executive Director, OND-HESED and Timuay Sannie Bello, Mindanao Peoples Peace Movement, Teduray Leader, Upi, made presentations on IP Situations.
