1. Feast of St. Joseph the Worker

San Jose Manggagawa Parish, Tantangan, South Cotabato celebrated its 34th patronal fiesta last 1 May 2015.  Presider and homilist was Bishop Dinualdo.  Fourteen priests concelebrated.

Theme: “San Jose, Modelo sang mga Kubos dira sa Pagtuo kag Pag-alagad sa Dios.”

Bishop’s homily from Gen. 1: 26-31; Eph. 5: 21 – 6: 1; Mt. 13: 54-58.

God created man in his image and likeness with intellect and free will.  Creation is one basis of human dignity.

Faith and service in the family lead to peace and harmony.

Jesus did not perform any miracle in Nazareth because of his town mates’ unbelief in him, a son of a carpenter.

St. Joseph’s faith was shown in obeying God’s command to marry Mary, then pregnant by the Holy Spirit.  Again, when he fled to Egypt with Mary and Jesus to save Jesus from King Herod’s wrath.

Joseph cared for Jesus and Mary through his love and work as a carpenter.

May 1st is Labor Day.  Pope St. John Paul II’s teachings on human work: dignity of labor; priority of labor over capital; rights of workers, spirituality of work – a sharing in the activity of the Creator (Encyclical Letter “Laborem Exercens, 1981).

Respecting human dignity and human rights will lead to industrial peace.
