“God settled him (Adam) in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and take care of it” (Gen. 2:15-16).
Care for the earth is our mission, our duty.
To prevent the earth from being polluted a diocesan wide mobilization took place in Maasim, Sarangani Province, on 14 September 2009. Against the proposed Coal Fired Power Plant (CFPP) in Kamanga, Maasim.
Mass action was preceded by the mass concelebrated by 23 priests and Bishop Dinualdo. The occasion was the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross. Christ’s crucifixion and death freed us from sin, death and Satan-God’s enemy. Christ’s humiliation resulted in His exaltation. His name is above every other name; his power, above all other powers.
Coal fired power plant is a dirty source of energy. It emits carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, lead, mercury, zinc and other heavy metals which are threats to human life and the environment.
Most nations have discarded CFPP. Our government is supporting it.
Zeal for God, for life (Human and non-human) and for the environment moved some 5,000 from almost all the 48 Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs/GKKs) in Maasim parish and many parishes of the Diocese to join the prayer rally after the mass.
We pray that CONAL HOGDINGS and their Thai partner would discard their plan to put up the CFPP.
