Our Lady of Lourdes Parish is 50 Years Old

Our Lady of Lourdes Parish of Polomolok celebrated its 50th parochial anniversary on 4 December 2008.

Theme: “Seeing Back…Looking Forward and Moving Together in Union with God Towards Integral Development”.

Bishop Dinualdo was presider and homilist. He looked back to February 1981 and Polomolok’s road were mostly unpaved. Few commercial establishments. Ordinary-looking plaza and Church. And few trained lay leaders. Now, roads are mostly paved, lots of business activities. Modern plaza with modern municipal government buildings. A big Church. Thousands of committed lay leaders and many flourishing BECs/GKKs.

Looking forward to “one, holy society” (cf. Eph. 1:4-5, 9-10), the parishioners are moving in Union with God towards integral development.

Integral development means “it has to promote the good of every man and of the whole man”.(Paul VI, Encyclical Letter on the Development of Peoples”, 26 March 1967, n. 14). Authentic development promotes the spiritual, moral, socio-political and economic growth of every person, while respecting the integrity of God’s creation, the environment. Hence, open-pit, and large-scale mining is anti-development. So are the proposed Reproductive Health Bill and Charter Change through a constituent assembly. These initiatives do not promote the common good, are health hazards and divisive.

Fr. Antonio Chua thanked the parishioners who filled the Church and its immediate environs.

P.S. Pray for the eternal repose of Fr. Baltazar Celestial who died on 5 December 2008 at General Santos City, Doctor’s Hospital.
