Bishop Dinualdo was presider and homilist. John’s vision of the heavenly Jerusalem: river of life arising from the throne of God and of the Lamb; trees of life; seeing God face to face; no more darkness, God himself is the light (1st reading). To enter heaven Jesus commands to be “on the watch” and to “pray constantly” for strength amidst efforts by the devil to lure us away from God (Gospel).
Cases of satanic influences: fertilizer fund scam; euro generals; Reproductive Health Bill; charter change to extend terms of elected officials. We have to be watchful. Otherwise, we too, would be misled by evil forces.
Constant prayer means formal prayers such as mass, liturgy of the hours, rosary, etc as well as an attitude of longing to be with God.
Taking his cue from the Final message of the 12th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, Bishop Dinualdo encouraged the clergy and religious to do Lectio Divina, “the prayerful reading in the Holy Spirit that is able to open to the faithful the treasure of the Word of God, and also to create the encounter with Christ, the living divine Word”. Step one: reading (lectio) of the text. Question: What does the text say in itself? Step two: meditation. Question: What does the text say to us? Step three: prayer (Oratio). Question: What do we say to the Lord in answer to his word? Step four: contemplation. Question: What conversion of the mind, the heart and life does the Lord ask of us?
