The 18th GA, DAGP, was held on 22 November 2008 at St. Paul of the Cross Novitiate, General Santos City.
Theme: “Strengthening the Basic Christian Communities (BCCs) Towards Union with God”.
Bishop Dinualdo emphasized the importance of the Word of God in strengthening the BCCs. He based his input on the “Message to the People of God of the XII Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops” (October 24, 2008).
The Word of God has 4 images: voice, face, house and roads.
Voice. God said “Let there be light” and there was light (Gen. 1:1,3). Adam, Noah, Abraham and other patriarchs, Moses, Elijah and other prophets heard this voice.
Face. “The Word was made flesh” (Jh. 1:14). The face of the Word is Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of Mary, Lord and Savior.
House. The house of the Word is the Church. In Acts 2:42 Luke teaches its architecture based on four ideal pillars: “These remained faithful to the teaching of the Apostles, to the brotherhood, to the breaking of bread and to the prayers”. 1st pillar: Preaching, catechesis, homily. 2nd pillar: Center of Christian life: liturgy of the Word and the Eucharistic liturgy. 3rd pillar: prayers – “psalms and hymns and inspired songs” (Col. 3:16) “Liturgy of the Hours and lectio divina”: 3 readings, 3 silences, 3 sharings. These lead to prayer, “oratio”. 4th pillar: In the house we encounter brothers and sisters from other Churches (Ecumenism).
Roads of the Word: Mission. “For the Law will go forth from Zion and the Word of the Lord from Jerusalem” (Is. 2:3). “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” (Mt. 28: 19-20). Use all media of communicating the Word including internet, emails, etc.
Through the Word of God we strengthen the BCCs towards union with God. Catechesis, Eucharist, bible service, bible sharing/prayers, brotherhood/sisterhood are all centered on Jesus Christ, the Word of God made man, our sole Mediator.
