War and violence displaces persons but it particularly haunts memories of young and children who are the most innocent victims of the conflict not of their own making. To address quickly the psychosocial needs of the children and young displaced by armed conflict in the areas in Maasim, the Kapayapaan Kapatid Council with Kalinaw Sarangani Unit, Act for Peace, LGU Maasim, Quality Education for Sarangani and Peace Network conducted a series of psycho social intervention in five temporary shelter areas in Bgy. Nomoh, Lumatil, Kanalo, Daliao, Manil of Maasim, Sar. Province. The activities were conducted last October 11, 17, 25, 2008.

The psycho-social interventions aim to let children and young people expressed their fears and trauma caused by the conflict. Young volunteers from different schools and organizations facilitated the activities thru paintings, games, songs, dances, and writing of dreams.

Medical and dental interventions were also given to the elderly and sick people in the evacuation areas.

It’s making the difference even in small things like letting a child smile in the midst of confusion and violence that made a difference in the life of the Internally Displaced Persons and the volunteers. Reported by Fr. Angelo R. Buenavides.
